Sloppy Thinker

John Stossel's opinion piece*  proffering repeal of the US military's Don't Ask Don't Tell policy was a case study in sloppy thinking.

He does not want the government involved in sexual politics, but is content to have the Government Accountability Office and the American Psychological Association influence this area of military policy.

He cites the experiences of other countries. Who cares what other nations do? These are different cultures with different worldviews and different forms of governance ranging from communism to Islamic theocracy.

His article did not explain what the repeal of DADT will look like. Will it mean that homosexual soldiers may openly flaunt their relationships? Will it mean that recruits must allow openly homosexual doctors to give them their physicals? Will it mean that transgenders can cross-dress and wear makeup? Will chaplains be barred from pastoral counseling? Will it mean that anyone who objects will be branded "homophobic" and forced to undergo sensitivity training?

Stossel defended his opinions with the lame excuse "People should be allowed to do what they want so long as no one gets hurt." Does he seriously believe this should be the foundational basis for the armed forces deciding who gets to serve?

Military readiness is not a popularity contest. Its mission is for the USA to have the most superior fighting force in the world. Its rules and traditions are beyond the scope of libertine freethinking.

Oldie but Goodie (Encore from 2006)

     The most pitiful activists who agitate to normalize homosexuality are those who seek to Christianize it.
     Claiming love is a Christian hallmark, they reason that homosexual romance is compatible with Christianity. Of course, only bigots and hatemongers disagree.
     Such credulity would be dismissive were it not so tragic. In Scripture, being in love is not the sole basis for acceptable sexual relationships. This is due to the fallibility of mankind, which redounds on discernment.
     Thus, romantic attractions can seem justified when they are, in fact, destructive. As the Proverb states: "There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." (Pr 14:12)
     This skewed human nature is exactly what Jesus reminded the Pharisees of when he pointed out God's intent for human sexuality: lifetime monogamy for one man and one woman.
 (Mt 19:4-8)
     To this day, even non-Christians acknowledge the practicality of Jesus' ethical teachings. For believers, would any among us dare call the Redeemer of mankind a bigot and a hatemonger?

Oldie but Goodie (Encore from 2007)

When my kids were in high school, I had a concern about the info regarding homosexuality that was presented in their hygiene class textbook. I felt it put a "happy face" on the condition at the expense of good health. I made an appointment with the school board president to explain to him that the school district may be putting itself at risk if a confused kid is pushed to experiment with homosexual sex after reading the fauxnaif presentation and then ending up with AIDS, or another STD, or (God forbid) gets raped.
