A Shameful Day

Conservative Party of New York State
Press Release ~ June 24, 2011

Passage of Same Sex Marriage is a Disaster for the Future
Today is a disheartening day for New Yorkers. Some will celebrate the fact that the long-standing definition of marriage has been changed, but New Yorkers will soon realize that the inevitable decline of the family will not be celebrated. Traditional marriage has served humanity for eons, has celebrated the joy of procreation and offered a Mother and Father the means to provide for their children. The stability of the family has helped every aspect of society. Government has a genuine role to keep society safe; it does not have a justifiable role to undermine what has been the foundation of society.

In 1970, some New Yorkers celebrated the passage of a right to abortion in the first trimester in New York State, now, forty- one years later, we cannot pass a law in New York State that would end the barbaric procedure known as partial birth abortion.

We question how marriage will be defined in the future. Moreover, we question what will be the effect on society. Passage of this legislation, in our view, will cause irreversible damage to our economy, educational system and the family.

NY has "Equality" without SSM

It really gets to be a bit much when time must be taken to defend the unmistakable fact that we are all here due to the unions of our mothers and fathers.

New York has marriage "equality." Anyone can get married here as long as their intended is a member of the opposite gender, not currently married to another, is of legal age and the relationship is not consanguineous.

These "discriminatory" rules are in place for virtuous reasons. Regardless of the fruitfulness of any particular union, it is common knowledge that men and women make babies, an act known as consummation. Simultaneous partners and childbearing between close relatives portend a variety of medical/social/economic pathologies. Minors cannot enter into contracts due to their developmental immaturity of both body and mind.

The most inane of all the excuses for same-sex "marriage" is claiming parity with civil rights for blacks. Comparing the immutability of race to volitional behavior is completely incongruous. There are many ex-gays among us. How many ex-blacks are there?

Creating this entitlement program called same-sex "marriage" serves no legitimate purpose for the greater good. I believe adultery and divorce will accelerate. The state's fiscal crisis will worsen as benefit claims bankrupt the state.

Most egregious of all, the right of the child to a mother and father will be nullified.

Shouldn't the rights of children matter more than the demands of a fragment of the population for whom consummation is an anatomical impossibility?

No One Has the Right to Redefine Marriage

The following appeared in the Poughkeepsie (NY) Journal today. I thank Rich for taking time from his tireless pro-life activism to produce this excellent piece:

The Marriage Equality Act would redefine marriage to ignore the fundamental biological fact that the union of man and woman is the only relationship that is capable — and designed — to unite them and to create and nurture children. Same-sex couples just cannot fit into that definition. Same-sex couples certainly have the right to live as they wish, but nobody has the right to redefine marriage and parenthood for all of society. Without a genuine religious-liberty exception in the law, same-sex "spouses" would be able to bring complaints against religious institutions, businesses and individuals under various state and local anti-discrimination and human rights laws, none of which were ever envisioned as applying to same-sex marriage.
There are professions that require a state license (lawyers, doctors, and nurses). The state may seek to revoke the license of anyone who discriminates against a same-sex married couple.
Health and family life education, which are required by the state, will be adjusted to include the recognition of same-sex marriage. Parents of public school children have only limited rights to opt their children out of these classes.
The Poughkeepsie Journal's editorial support of same-sex marriage failed to mention these issues ("NY should allow gay marriage, now," May 27). This bill settles nothing and will begin a long and costly legal struggle in the courts. Contact your senator and assemblyperson and tell them to reject the Marriage Equality Act.
