Sex and the Service

Poughkeepsie Journal
Earlier this year, an analysis of publicly available military documents showed that homosexuals in the military are three times more likely to commit sexual assaults than heterosexuals Self-identified homosexuals comprise 3 percent of the population, yet are responsible for 8 percent of sexual assault cases in the military.

U.S. Rep. Scott Murphy, who serves on the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, has voted to repeal the "don't ask don't tell" policy, declaring it to be outdated ). However, if "don't ask don't tell" is repealed, then instances of predatory behavior against servicemen will most probably increase.

His re-election campaign is now running TV ads touting all he's done for small businesses in New York. Will successful businesses matter in the long run if America's military might is compromised in this way?
