Save the Children

Question : What do cohabitation, divorce, same-sex "marriage" and single parenthood have in common?
Answer: They are all lifestyle arrangements which focus on the gratification of adults. [The exception would be divorce in cases involving abuse, addiction, adultery and/or desertion.]

The interest of children is best served by laws encouraging and supporting marriage for their mothers and fathers rather than by supporting those who would intentionally deprive them of a mother or a father.

Marriage has never been focused on the status of adults or severed from the reality that sexual relations between a man and a woman have the potential to generate new life.

Marriage unites a man and a woman with each other and any children that may result from their union. Holding this position does not require people to have an opinion one way or the other about homosexuality. It is only the consequence of recognizing the reality that marriage unites a man and a woman with each other and any children that result from their union.

Women remain the only citizens possessed of a womb and capable of gestating and giving birth to future citizens. Thus, the union between a man and a woman is procreative in nature - independently of the actual fruitfulness of
any particular union.

This understanding of marriage is not a bare appeal to tradition or custom, but is a recognition that the source of all human life is the union of a man and a woman, and that every person without exception has a mother and a father. Children need fathers not simply to come into existence, but also during their childhood and beyond.
